I was just looking through old photos on facebook and just came across the Candy Flu album art we made back in 2010 when we released out first record.
CANDY FLU ALBUM ART
I love the description on the album and the 'do it yourself cause we can't / couldn't be bothered' approach.
"Each CD comes with 2 pictures from this album, idea being you choose the one you like and stick it on the front for your own album cover."
Paul and I shot most of the photos in the first 6 or so months we stared playing together. I was using my new Lomo Fisheye and Paul had a really nice Lomo LC A. Most of the photos were taken when we were touring around regional Australia to Young and Bathurst and places out west. We visited a mate's cherry farm for a few days and cranked around on quad bikes and shot a bunch of guns.
I love album cover photo (below) the most. We had played at some pub in Young with a bunch of super loose locals and after the show we all got kicked out of the pub. We grabbed a guitar and a tambouring and a harmonica and went across the road to a taxi rank with a group of about 30 - 40 locals and started playing tunes and singing. There had been a wedding or races on or something so all of a sudden these dudes in suits started break dancing and shit. Paul snapped the picture.
After the album was done, I went down to officeworks and in true early Walking Who style, just photocopied and printed out a whole bunch of the photos in colour and black and white. I took them back home and started painting over them and colouring them. Paul and Rohin dug the idea so we developed it into the album art and later the idea for the clip for Candy Flu. I really liked the super raw and DIY style of the record. The records were shitty and rough, the 'recording studio' was shitty and rough, the album art was shitty and rough and the clip was shitty and rough. We should have called our first record Clean and Smooth.
